24 May 2008 - Club 2000 Sports Day 2008

On Saturday 24th May Club 2000 more or less took over the whole of Madeley Court Sports Centre for their annual sports day.

Three other clubs joined us for the day - Bridgnorth Beavers, Cheslyn Hay Otters and Enterprise - and it was the biggest and busiest sports day for us yet!

David Wright MP visited us in the morning, and presented Chairman Sheila with a cheque for just over £300 from the House of Parliament pool tournament that he had taken part in.  David had a conducted tour of all the sports events - and especially enjoyed watching some of the football tournament.

Telford and Wrekin Councillor Dennis Allen - a staunch supporter of Club 2000 - came in the afternoon to present the prizes.

Our thanks to all those who turned out to help on the day - the Lions and Rotary Club members as well as several of the Club 2000 volunteers and their friends who had been roped in to help.

Special thanks must go to volunteer Colin Bonella-Foster's wife, Gail, who ran the tombola for us and raised a magnificent £160.  Well done, Gail!

Club 2000 volunteers Keith Jones and Daniel Bonella-Foster are in line for a special Merit Award.   Daniel organised and ran the 4-a-side football tournament, sorting out the teams, refereeing and keeping track of the scores all on his own; and Keith ran himself ragged doing a lot of 'gofer-ing' and making sure that competitors were in the right place at the right time for their competitions.

Club 2000 member Jay Powell thanked Sue Harris, sports day organiser, for a lovely day and presented her with two bottles of wine.
